On February 12, 2026, museum staff, together with the Central Library System, held an evening-remembrance "Afghanistan, Echo of War" for convicts of institution No. 39 of the KUIS of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, dedicated to the withdrawal of a limited contingent of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.
This evening was a conversation about war without loud words - through destinies, memories and objects that keep a living memory in themselves. The guests of the event learned how many young children from our area left to fulfill their international duty, and what mark Afghanistan left in their lives.
The exhibition from the museum's funds "Time Chose Them" made a special impression. The exhibits presented - photographs, documents, personal belongings - seemed to speak for themselves, talking about soldiers' everyday life, front-line brotherhood, hope and pain of loss. Through these items, the past became closer and clearer, recalling the price that a person pays in war.
A living continuation of the story was the speech of T. Umralinov, chairman of the NGO "Union of Veterans of Afghanistan and Local Wars of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhitikarinsky District." His words, filled with personal experience, gave the event a special depth and sincerity.
The memory evening was a reminder of how important it is to cherish memory - not only in books and dates, but also in objects, each of which is human destiny.
